Our Story

For over a century, Iraq especially Kurdistan has relied almost exclusively on oil as its primary economic resource, leaving agriculture neglected despite the region’s rich environmental potential. Kurdistan boasts abundant water sources, a favorable climate, and four distinct seasons, all of which provide an ideal foundation for a thriving agricultural sector. Yet, traditional farming methods persist, with outdated techniques and low-quality, unimproved crop varieties struggling to compete with the superior agricultural products of developed nations.

Recognizing this gap, Dr. Laylan H. Fadladeen, a specialist in plant tissue culture at the University of Duhok, envisioned a revolutionary approach to modernize Kurdistan’s agriculture. She brought together a team of highly skilled academic women, each with expertise in scientific research and technical innovation, to launch a groundbreaking agricultural project. Their goal? To transform local farming through cutting-edge agricultural science.

This project is more than just a farming initiative it is a movement toward self-sufficiency and agricultural excellence. By harnessing the power of plant tissue culture, the project produces high-quality, improved seedlings for fruit and ornamental plants, ensuring disease resistance and superior yield. Additionally, rare and local vegetable varieties are cultivated using top-tier international seeds, rigorously tested by the project’s researchers before being introduced to farmers.

By merging science, innovation, and female leadership, this initiative aims to bridge the gap between traditional farming and modern agricultural advancements. It equips farmers with superior plant varieties, empowering them to compete on an international level while enhancing food security in Kurdistan.

This pioneering academic-agricultural collaboration not only revitalizes the region’s long-overlooked farming sector but also demonstrates the immense potential of scientific expertise when applied to real-world agricultural challenges. With a vision rooted in sustainability and progress, this project marks the beginning of a new era for agriculture in Kurdistan one driven by knowledge, innovation, and determination.
